This the last of the Newsletter collections from my recent purchase of Microbee material, there was a collection of the WESREV Newsletters from the Schools Computing Branch of the Education Department of Western Australia. Again, these were professionally produced booklets, A4 in size and ranged from 24 to 76 pages long. Four issues were produced each year and we now have those when it started in 1985 and when it was concluded in 1986. However, we are missing vol2_03 issue, so can anyone help with that issue to complete the collection ?
WESREV was a publication that should serve a vital need in both educational circles
and in the community at large. This is the first issue (v1_01) of what is to become
a regular publication of the Schools Computing Branch of the Education Department of
Western Australia. WESREV is devoted to the topic of software evaluation. It will
contain, exclusively, reviews of educational computer software packages. These
reviews will be prepared by the expert staff of the Schools Computing Branch, using
rigorous and systematic evaluation techniques.
Top Five Programs for Secondary Schools (Years 8-12) 1985
1. Beeartistic (Microbee) — drawing utility.
2. Hometown (Microbee) — prepared database.
3. Woodland Foodweb (Apple II) — simulation.
4. Australia A Profile (Microbee) — prepared database.
5. The Newsroom (Apple II) — writing utility.
TOP FIVE PROGRAMS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS (YEARS 8-12) 1986
1. Typequick (Microbee) - tutorial.
2. PrintMaster (Microbee) - graphics package.
3. DeskTop (Acorn BBC) - integrated information handling system.
4. Zeephon (Microbee) - tutorial.
5. Economics in Action Part 3 (Acorn BBC) - tutorial.
These Newsletters were only produced for the 2 years (total of 8 issues) but contained extensive Reviews and Summaries of not only Educational software for the Microbee but also for the BBC and Apple II. There is a yearly cumulative Index in both issues #04 for vol 1 & 2.
Finally, as this is the last of the Newsletter collections from my recent purchase of Microbee material, so expect Software, Manuals, Brochures, etc to follow.
