Thanks to kimjohn for supplying his original disk & manual for imaging and scanning. The non-bootable 5.25" DS40 disk imaged 100% error free and the 28 page manual came with a single page Addendum also.
The disk contains 2 lone files, VIATEL.COM and a small README.DOC, both totalling 8k and leaving 378k free on the disk. This disk compliments the 3.5" disk version already in the Repository and is the upgrade disk for Viatel version 1.2 and 1.21. From the small Doc file :
The main advantage of version 1.3 is that it allows the storage and saving of twenty screens at a time, whereas the old version allowed only four. In order to do this, it was neccessary to change the format of the disk file that the screens are stored in. This has the result of making any files saved under version 1.2 or 1.21 totally incompatible with version 1.3. This unavoidable state of affairs was chosen as being the only way the extra storage could be effected efficiently, and I hope that it does not cause too many hardships with our many customers.
The manual is the 2nd second edition reprint and differs from the others we have in the repository. Now includes a catalogue number on the cover of 200-182.
The Addendum sheet is for Telcom version II.2 and fixes several "bugs" which were known to exist in the now superseded version II. Two of the problems which have now been completely fixed are:
- the inability to completely transfer files when using a file specification involving "wild cards".
- a command of the form "REC B:*.*" will no longer rename all files on the specified disk to "????????.???".
So in the MbeeTech Repository in the Microbee/Software/Applications folder we placed
viatel_1.3a_ds40.dsk
viatel_software_users_guide_2nd_edition_reprint.pdf <-- in the Documentation/Manuals/Software folder
telcom_ii_users_manual_ver_2.2_addendum.pdf
viatel_1.3.jpg <-- in the Documentation/Pictures/Disks/5.25_inch folder
