It certainly was a very interesting time to be growing up, with a whole host of opportunities on offer if you looked for them.
Back in those days you could go into stores (such as the Microbee stores, but also the likes of Dick Smith, and even Tandy) and the staff
would be enthusiasts themselves and happy to encourage others to get on board.
