BBC Model B - beeingdavid - 29-10-2024 Hi, I'm curious about whether anyone here has a BBC micro? Particularly anyone in Brisbane. Back in the early eighties, I bought a Bee, and my brother bought a Beeb. He later gave me his Model B, which after recapping the power supply, I am going to test. It's a cassette based system, and has a small amount of software, including a game I can't wait to try called "Time Trek", a Dr. Who text based adventure game. I am also keen on getting hold of a Spitfire simulator that was available. I think the one I'm remembering was "1942". I remember one of the Demo programs was a poem by Roger McGough called "Just Hit Return", which generated a new line every time you hit "return". RE: BBC Model B - CheshireNoir - 30-10-2024 Hi David, I'm not in Brisbane, but I have two BBCs. I have BBC Micro and a BBC Master. They are nice little machines and quite fast. The Master also has a "PiTube" coprocessor board fitted internally. I'm looking at getting some Sideways RAM for the BBC Micro next. I also have an Electron. if your system has the FDD controller chips fitted, adding a Gotek is an easy upgrade that lets you play games from disk. Otherwise, I can highly recommend the TurboMMC style user port SD card interfaces as you get access to a huge library of games that are literally a click of a key away. John RE: BBC Model B - beeingdavid - 30-10-2024 Hi John, Thank you again! I don't think the FDD controller is fitted (I haven't looked, but it was only ever set up with cassette, so I assume the controller was an option). The SD card attachment sounds excellent-I will definitely look into that. I remember trying to talk my brother into getting a Microbee, but I'm glad he didn't, because now I have two different micros! |
