Microbee Acrylic Case - CheshireNoir - 22-04-2024

So I had a "Bitsa" Microbee, built from a 32K ROM board, upgraded to 128K DRAM board (Thanks Chickenman!), without a case. Thankfully, after some work it had a good keyboard.

I decided to see if I could make a replacement case for it.
Using CorelDraw, and a lot of trial and error, I was able to finally get a suitable case designed. There were many attempts made in MDF before I got to something that seemed actually "practical" for holding the 'bee.

After this, it went no further for a long time.
Eventually I laser cut the pieces out of acrylic. It didn't go any further after that for ages either. I finally got some suitable glue last week and, after some setbacks...

I have even gone and added a case badge. I always liked the "classic" version of the Microbee case badge, so that was my inspiration.

I've now been asked to do a "remix" with support for the Premium model by ChickenMan, so I guess I better get on that :-D

Looks great John.
What was the process for making the badge?

It's actually just thick silver cardboard :-D
Just ran it thru the laser printer on a flat path so the printing worked. (One reason I love my current printer is that it has a flat print path so I can print on card)
The badge was run up in CorelDraw, after finding an approximately matching font and tweaking from some images of the badge online.

Well, great result.  Would not have guessed it was cardboard.
Awesome.
