KAOS Newsletters from Victorian 6502 User Group including the Rabble 65 - ChickenMan - 31-05-2023

Thanks to exidyboy for making this collections of newsletters available to be scanned. They were originally sourced from Ray Gardiner, one of the designers of the Rabble 65, so thanks Ray. They were all A4 sized and were scanned at 600pdi on a flatbed A3 scanner. A few had their staples removed and fed through my A3 printers ADF and duplex scanned. Scans were cleaned up and then converted to searchable PDF's as usual. Most are 16 pages long with a few only 12 pages and two at 20 pages.

KAOS was the monthly Newsletter produced by the Victorian 6502 User Group for People Who Have Got Smart, starting in October 1980. Initially they where a club of OSI, SYM, KIM, AIM, ATARI, APPLE, UK101 & ORANGE computer owners. But later the ATARI, APPLE & ORANGE were dropped and the RABBLE 65 included. The whole story and start of the Rabble 65 is included with much discussion in between.

Kaos is branching out into new territories, no longer are we tied to OSI,
or even 6502. There are now several different computer groups operating within
the club and interesting information is being printed on a range of computers.
We regard ourselves primarily as a hardware and software hackers group.

They were Melbourne based but there were now groups in Queensland, NSW and WA that reported regularly in the newsletters. So by late 1985 they supported the AIM-OSI-APPLE-MAC-IBM-RABBLE 65-C64-VIC20-PEACH-UK101-BBC computers. The Microbee got an occasional mention and there was one article of Modifications to the Microbee Eprom Programmer for use with 6521 and 6522 VIA by Nino Benci in the vol4_06 issue.

From Vol2_08 issue the contents of each was printed on the front page and by Vol3 a yearly Index of the main articles was printed in the 12th issue of each volume. These were extracted as separate files for easy searching. The contents of Vol4_01, for example, is -

Code:
                              INDEX
BASIC 4 - Notes .............. 6    My Superboard pt 7 ............ 11
Calendar Clock ............... 4    New Char. Sets - Software ...... 7
Dabug 3J .................... 11    Puzzle ......................... 5
EPROMs ....................... 8    Super Defender ................. 6
For Sale ................. 10+15    SUPERBOARD ..................... 4
Machine Language pt 16 ....... 9    Token Load/Save ............... 14
Meeting - KAOS ............... 7    Video Mod using 6545 (cont) .... 2
Meeting - WA................. 13    Word Processor - Line editor .. 13

Sadly, this collection is currently missing Newsletters all of Volume 1, a few from Volume 5, all Volume 6 and higher, so a big request to everyone if they can help with filling the missing issues. Remember, we can do the scanning for you if you do not have the hardware or the time.

All have had personal phone numbers and addresses Redacted out as indicated by the _r in each file name.

So in the Vintage Repository in the new /Rabble_65/KAOS_Newsletters folder we added :-

RE: KAOS Newsletters from Victorian 6502 User Group including the Rabble 65 - ChickenMan - 26-12-2025

Thanks to Alejandro Daniel Perez for providing quality individual page scans of a further 8 issues of the KAOS newsletters.  These all had a major cleanup and converted to a searchable PDFs as usual. All A4 in size and mostly 16 pages in length.

Four were from volume 5 which filled in the missing issues, so now we have a complete collection of that volume and further 4 issues at the start of volume 6. As per previous issues, these have all been Redacted with phone numbers and personal addresses removed.  They have also been put up at archive.org because of so much info in them is other than Aussie made computers, like the Rabble 65, see - https://archive.org/details/kaos-newsletters
