New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - sijnstra - 22-09-2022 Hi, I've been working on a more full-featured infocom interpreter on z80 based systems for the past year or so. The idea being that you can run the later games (e.g. Nord and Berts, Sherlock, Zork: The Great Underground Empire, and even Arthur: The Quest for Excallibur), as well has hundreds (thousands?) of post-infocom era games written for the same platform. It started with the TRS-80 Model 4 128K version, then I made Model I and Model III versions. Now, I've ported it to CP/M 3. So I'd like to make as good a CP/M 3 version as possible for the Microbee. I've had some help getting started, and now have a working emulator. I'm at the point now that I can't test my binaries on the 'bee because I can't figure out the diskdefs to get the files on or off. Does anyone have the diskdefs they can share? If you're curious about the project, here's some links to the story so far including screenshots, more techinical detail and some of the source code: Model 4 version - M4ZVM: https://gitlab.com/sijnstra1/m4zvm/ Model 1 version - M1ZVM sijnstra / M1ZVM · GitLab CP/M 3 version - Vezza sijnstra / Vezza · GitLab Cheers, Shawn RE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - ChickenMan - 22-09-2022 The diskdefs are all the CPMTools - Patched version in the Public repository, normal CPMTools cant handle all the Microbee disk formats. You need to join the Repository first, see https://microbeetechnology.com.au/forum/thread-15.html I've has a play with your M1ZVM and works well on the Dick Smith System-80, I'll be releasing a few disk images for the System 80 shortly once fully tested Thanks.EDIT: Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy Z5 file running fine on the System 80 RE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - emujoust - 25-09-2022 What a great idea for a project, Shawn. Looking forward to the Bee release. RE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - Under4Mhz - 25-09-2022 I've created a demo project with an example of how to build a disk with the custom version of cpm-tools-2.10 needed for Microbee disks. See https://microbeetechnology.com.au/forum/thread-498.html RE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - ChickenMan - 26-09-2022 Thanks Shawn, I see you have updated VEZZA for the Microbee to include colour, looking great. Keep up the good work This is from BeyondZorkRE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - ChickenMan - 09-10-2022 Since vezza-mb needs CP/M3 to run, that basically means you can only use it on a 128k Microbee. I see you have made a version, vezza-k2, for the Kaypro 2 that appears to run on both the early 56k and CIAB (64k) Microbee's in standard CP/M2.2, except for some of the Terminal codes used. Is it possible to tweak it to run on these Microbee's even as a different version ? This is running Vezza-K2 with BORDER ZONE on a CIAB (64k) Microbee running CP/M 2.2. As you can see, the file load and starts running but there is no CLS between to Vezza loading the z5 file and the file actually running. There are other screen issues once running also. RE: New Infocom game interpreter - diskdefs needed for Microbee CP/M3 - sijnstra - 13-10-2022 Thank you for checking out the System-80 version as well! Was my first workhorse computer and my first dive into the Infocom adventure world. I look forward to seeing them in the library. I haven't tried the System-80 MAME emulator. I think that's next on my list. And thank you so much for feedback and bug reports - I've been able to clean up the MicroBee 64k version to work as intended: |
