Applix 1616 - ChickenMan - 21-12-2019 My Applix was simply mounted in a frame, with the HD just dangling, I really wanted it to be in secured into a real case. The problem is the whole back edge of the motherboard has plugs socket switches etc making fitting to a standard modern case impossible. I was given a Rainbow 100 case that has an opening at the back similar to what was needed. Will it fit ? Well, with removal of a couple bits of plastic of the bottom of the case and a couple of trims of the Applix's aluminium base board, it fits perfectly Will post some pics later when I make up an Applix 1616 badge. Now to actually get the unit up and running.
RE: Applix 1616 - Ernest - 22-12-2019 Look forward to seeing some pictures. Do you know if anyone has done an emulation of the 1616? RE: Applix 1616 - ChickenMan - 22-12-2019 Pics will have to wait til after Christmas, I'm running out of time The Applix 1616 is emulated in MAME see below.
RE: Applix 1616 - ChickenMan - 29-12-2019 Visited Ewan at Microbee Technology last Friday with the Applix. The power supply was not producing 12v, so that was replaced. After a lot of re-seating the cards and cpu, we eventually go an image to the screen It works However, soon after smoke escaped from one of the floppies and even later smoke came out of the very noisy scsi HD It did actually boot from the HD once, but the screen changes from a 15khz to 18khz so we never saw anything to the screen. Its now home, have re-seated all the chips, cleaned up the pcb and replaced the 2 floppies with modern units. I searched through my old HD box, and not a Scsi HD to be found, all IDE, so if anyone has an old scsi 50pin HD of about 40mb or more, I'd be very interested.
RE: Applix 1616 - ChickenMan - 31-12-2019 I've located a 40mb SCSI HD, I pick it up this Wednesday, dont trust the Post Office with these drives. RE: Applix 1616 - Robert - 02-01-2020 When I click on the MAME thumbnail, the forum tells me I don't have permission to view it. Quote:You do not have permission to access this page. This could be because of one of the following reasons: RE: Applix 1616 - ChickenMan - 02-01-2020 I've moved the thumbnail into the actual thread rather than an attachment, does that work ? RE: Applix 1616 - Robert - 02-01-2020 No, same error as before. Quote:You do not have permission to access this page. RE: Applix 1616 - Robert - 02-01-2020 Nope, going backwards - the thumbnail has disappeared, so there's nothing to click on. Pointing in the general area shows the filename, size, date and time though. |
