Hi from Sydney - douges - 11-01-2022 Hi, My name is Dougall - I've recently acquired a working Microbee 128K SBC, which I'm really excited about. 40 Years ago I learnt to program on my Dad's Microbee. He initially had the 56k disk system and then upgraded as new models were released with his final bee being the 128k Premium with Colour and extended PCG memory. I have been looking for a similar Microbee for some time now to recapture some of that excitement I had learning to code on the Microbee. The first thing I want to do is re-learn Z-80 programming and understanding the Microbee's memory map. Maybe write a game or two ![]() To help with connecting the Microbee to the modern world (My MacBook), I've ordered a USB to Null modem. There is also a Rs232 to Wifi kit that looks interesting. Anyone else done something similar ? Dougall RE: Hi from Sydney - someone - 11-01-2022 Welcome Dougall! Someone hopes you enjoy the forum, tips, information, resources and camaraderie. RE: Hi from Sydney - ChickenMan - 11-01-2022 Hi Dougall and welcome to the forum ![]() Great to hear you have acquired a Microbee to bring back your youths memories. Microbee Technology produced a Wifi unit for the Microbee but there has been no work done to it for some time. Are you aware of any CP/M based terminal program you could use instead that may have support for other file transfer protocols ? RE: Hi from Sydney - ChickenMan - 12-01-2022 The problem with modern BBS is that all support VT100 terminals which the Microbee does not. An updated Telcom (ver 3.10) has partly had VT100 protocols added as you can see in the link I gave above. As for file transfer, yes there there are others that can be used like ZMODEM, SMODEM, IMP, KERMIT, etc. They are all in the Repository so do a quick search in Microbee\Software\Club_and_BBS_files\MBUG_disks. RE: Hi from Sydney - someone - 12-01-2022 Someone's wired Ethernet with TCP/IP stack adapter supports TFTP for simple small file transfers. It's just perfect for loading and saving programs & is so much more reliable than using cassette tapes. There's no reason why the more modern wireless equivalent wouldn't work. Jez time flies whilst you're having fun! Someone's FPGA Microbee equivalent is already 18 years old! Somewhere in someone's treasure trove is an ANSI/ DEC VT100 terminal emulator for the microbee. The Alpha plus one supported colour. |
