Microbee Adventure #04 disk Walkthoughs & disk update - ChickenMan - 05-09-2021

Thanks to oldbee for providing not only these walkthroughs but also finding some problems with a couple of the games.

The 3D-Adventure has a SAVE option, but Saves/Restores to Cassette. Since this a disk image, the Basic code was re-written to allow Save/Restore to disk. Both save to Tape (original) and Disk versions are included on the disk and selectable from a Menu.

The Treasures of Elgon, both CP/M and MWB version, were found to have a problem that did not allow you to complete the game. The original code, written in GW-BASIC for the IBM, was amended and re-compiled with BASCOM and now fully functional. The MWB version had some addition problems that could not be resolved. Since we had a working CP/M version it was decided to remove the MWB version and replace it with a different adventure on the disk, "CPCine Disk of Power!". It was an Adventure that was written originally for the Amstrad CPC line of computers that had been converted to the Microbee with a few computer names re-named.

Dogstar was also found to have a a problem that did not allow you to finish the game. The original amended TRS-80 code is on MBUG #90 disk and another program listing of it converted to run on a Zeneth Z-100 was also found and between them a fully operational version was created.

Some notes from Oldbee on some of the games on Adventure Disk 04 -

MAIN MENU
Bunyip – walkthrough already in the Repository.

Survival – this is the same game as on Disk 1. My notes (from a long time ago when I compiled a list of all adventures on all disk) say this version has a bug in that the “drop” command doesn’t work. I have not tested this again recently though – walkthrough already in the Repository.

BASIC MENU
Dungeons of Khan – not a text adventure so not done
Island So Far – not a text adventure so not done
Taipan – not a text adventure so not done
Galaxy trek - not a text adventure so not done

The Count – Too many random elements make this game un-winnable without the save function. SAVE GAME is to tape only. I also found a bug in it. There is a walkthrough on CASA: http://solutionarchive.com/game/id%2C95/Count%2C+The.html  See scott_adams_adventures_ds80.dsk for a version that SAVE GAME is to disk.

Savage Island Part 1 – Like “The Count” there are too many random elements that make this game unplayable/unwinnable without a save function. SAVE GAME is to tape only. There is a walkthrough on CASA: http://solutionarchive.com/game/id%2C460/Savage+Island+part+1.html  See scott_adams_adventures_ds80.dsk for a version that SAVE GAME is to disk.

So all the other games on the disk were provided with not only a Walkthrough but also a detailed Map of the rooms. Some also have some helpful notes. Again only view them if you really get struck trying to solve the game.

The adventure_04_ds80.dsk has been updated with an additional copy of Escape in 3D that allows you to save/restore to and from disk, Dogstar replaced with a fully working copy, The Treasures of Elgon CP/M version also replaced with a fully working copy and the MWB version removed and replaced with a new adventure called CPCine Disk of Power!
